Description

These Air Fryer Calzones are golden, crispy handheld pockets filled with melty cheese, savory fillings, and a flaky crust. Ready in just 40 minutes, they’re a fun, customizable meal that delivers all the deliciousness of pizza in an easy-to-eat form.

Ingredients

Pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)

1/2 cup shredded cheese, divided

4 tablespoons ricotta cheese, divided

11/2 cups desired cooked fillings (such as sausage, chicken, vegetables, or pepperoni)

Parchment paper

Olive oil, for brushing

Salt, for sprinkling

Marinara sauce, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare all ingredients: make or bring pizza dough to room temperature and cook desired fillings. Let fillings cool for about 30 minutes.
  2. Cut parchment paper to fit the air fryer basket and preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 10 minutes with the basket inside.
  3. On a floured surface, roll out the dough into an 8–9-inch circle, about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Place on parchment paper.
  4. Add 1/4 cup shredded cheese and 2 tablespoons ricotta about two inches from one edge. Layer with about 1-1/2 cups of cooled fillings, then add remaining ricotta and shredded cheese.
  5. Fold the dough over to form a half-moon shape and press the edges firmly to seal. Crimp or fold for a thicker crust if desired.
  6. Brush the top with olive oil, cut a few small vents for steam, and sprinkle with salt.
  7. Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 8–12 minutes, checking halfway through to prevent overbrowning.
  8. Remove carefully and let cool on a wire rack for a few minutes.
  9. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

Use whole-wheat pizza dough for a heartier crust.

Try vegetarian fillings like spinach, mushrooms, and mozzarella.

Make breakfast calzones with eggs, cheese, and veggies.

For a sweet version, fill with Nutella and bananas, then dust with powdered sugar.

Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 3–5 minutes until crisp again.
