Description

Soft, buttery buns filled with creamy cheesecake and diced apples, topped with a cinnamon-spiced oat crumble. These Apple Cheesecake Crumble Buns combine rich, tangy, and sweet flavors in every bite — perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.

Ingredients

Dough:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed

1/2 cup cold buttermilk

1 medium apple, peeled and diced

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Cheesecake Filling:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Crumble Topping:

1/2 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup melted butter

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in the chilled butter using your fingertips or a pastry cutter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in cold buttermilk and stir gently until just combined. Fold in diced apple and cinnamon.
  5. In another bowl, beat cream cheese with sugar until smooth. Add egg and vanilla; mix until creamy. Set aside.
  6. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough into a ½-inch-thick rectangle. Cut into 12 squares.
  7. Place 1 tablespoon of cheesecake filling in the center of each square. Fold corners toward the center and pinch to seal, forming a bun shape.
  8. For the crumble topping, mix oats, brown sugar, melted butter, and cinnamon until crumbly.
  9. Top each bun with a spoonful of crumble mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  10. Arrange buns on the baking sheet and bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown and fragrant.
  11. Cool slightly before serving. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with caramel sauce.

Notes

Use firm apples like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith for best texture.

Add chopped pecans or walnuts to the crumble for extra crunch.

Swap the apple for pear or peach for a fruity variation.

Use reduced-fat cream cheese or Greek yogurt for a lighter filling.

Store at room temperature for 2 days, refrigerate up to 5 days, or freeze up to 2 months.
