Description
Bloody Red Velvet Popcorn is a spooky Halloween snack made with crunchy popcorn coated in a rich red velvet glaze, topped with creepy candies for a fun and delicious treat.
Ingredients
10 cups popped plain popcorn (about 1/2 cup unpopped kernels or 2 microwave bags), lightly salted if desired
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup light corn syrup
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1–2 teaspoons red gel food coloring (adjust for intensity)
Optional toppings: White chocolate drizzle, candy eyeballs, black sprinkles, crushed chocolate cookies
Instructions
- Prepare the Popcorn: Pop the popcorn and spread it out in a large bowl. Preheat the oven to 250°F (120°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Make the Red Velvet Coating: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter. Add the sugar, corn syrup, and cocoa powder, stirring constantly. Bring to a boil for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat, and stir in the vanilla, baking soda, and red food coloring.
- Combine & Bake: Pour the red velvet coating over the popcorn and stir to coat. Spread the popcorn in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes.
- Cool & Serve: Let the popcorn cool completely. Drizzle with white chocolate and top with candy eyeballs, black sprinkles, or crushed chocolate cookies. Serve and enjoy!
Notes
Try different food colors to match your Halloween theme—green, purple, or orange are fun alternatives!
For a chewier texture, reduce the baking time slightly and skip stirring every 10 minutes.
For a savory twist, swap the red velvet coating for a cheese glaze or ranch seasoning.
