Description

Bold, sweet-and-savory Crack Green Beans baked with butter, brown sugar, smoked turkey, cranberries, and almonds for an irresistible crowd-pleasing side dish.


Ingredients

5 cans green beans, drained

1 pound smoked turkey strips, cooked and chopped

⅓ cup brown sugar

½ cup unsalted butter

¼ cup soy sauce

1 teaspoon garlic powder

½ cup dried cranberries

½ cup sliced almonds

Orange zest, to taste


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Heat the smoked turkey strips in a skillet until warmed through and lightly crisped, then chop into bite-sized pieces.
  3. In a large baking dish, combine the drained green beans, chopped turkey, and dried cranberries.
  4. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  5. Stir in the brown sugar, soy sauce, and garlic powder until the sugar dissolves and the sauce is smooth.
  6. Pour the sauce evenly over the green bean mixture and gently stir to coat.
  7. Sprinkle sliced almonds evenly over the top and finish with a light sprinkle of orange zest.
  8. Cover the dish with foil and bake for about 20 minutes, until heated through and lightly bubbling.
  9. Remove from the oven and serve warm.

Notes

Use low-sodium soy sauce to reduce saltiness if desired.

Fresh green beans can be used if blanched until tender first.

Toast the almonds separately for extra crunch.

Dried cherries or raisins can replace cranberries.
