Description
Creme Brulee French Toast Casserole is a rich, indulgent breakfast dish featuring a caramelized topping and custard-soaked French bread, baked to golden perfection.
Ingredients
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons corn syrup
- 1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch slices
- 5 large eggs
- 1 ½ cups whole milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup. Stir until smooth and bubbling, about 3-4 minutes. Pour caramel mixture evenly into the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Arrange French bread slices in a single layer over the caramel sauce, overlapping if necessary.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, salt, and cinnamon (if using). Pour custard evenly over bread, making sure each slice is soaked.
- Cover dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight or at least 4 hours.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove plastic wrap and let dish sit at room temperature for 15 minutes.
- Bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes until the top is golden and custard is set.
- Let cool a few minutes before serving. Invert slices so caramel side is up. Serve warm, optionally with fresh berries or powdered sugar.
Notes
- Chill time can range from 4 hours to overnight.
- Optionally serve with fresh berries and powdered sugar for added sweetness and flair.
