Description

Creme Brulee French Toast Casserole is a rich, indulgent breakfast dish featuring a caramelized topping and custard-soaked French bread, baked to golden perfection.


Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup
  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch slices
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 ½ cups whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup. Stir until smooth and bubbling, about 3-4 minutes. Pour caramel mixture evenly into the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Arrange French bread slices in a single layer over the caramel sauce, overlapping if necessary.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, salt, and cinnamon (if using). Pour custard evenly over bread, making sure each slice is soaked.
  4. Cover dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight or at least 4 hours.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove plastic wrap and let dish sit at room temperature for 15 minutes.
  6. Bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes until the top is golden and custard is set.
  7. Let cool a few minutes before serving. Invert slices so caramel side is up. Serve warm, optionally with fresh berries or powdered sugar.
