Description

A Dirty Martini is a sophisticated and bold cocktail that combines your choice of base spirit, dry vermouth, and olive brine, creating a unique and savory drink.

Ingredients

6 oz (180ml) of your preferred base spirit

1 oz (30ml) Dry Vermouth (chilled)

1 oz (30ml) Olive Brine (from a jar of good quality olives)

34 Green Olives (Castelvetrano recommended), for garnish

Ice (plenty)

Optional: A dash of orange bitters

Instructions

  1. Chill Your Glass: Fill a martini glass with ice and a splash of water. Let it sit for at least 5 minutes (or place it in the freezer for a few minutes). This step ensures your martini stays cold throughout the drink.
  2. Mix the Martini: Fill a mixing glass with ice. Pour in your base spirit, dry vermouth, and olive brine. For an extra touch of complexity, you can add a dash of orange bitters.
  3. Stir Gently: Stir gently with a bar spoon for 20-30 seconds, until the mixing glass feels very cold. Be careful not to over-stir, as this could over-dilute the cocktail.
  4. Strain and Garnish: Discard the ice and water from the chilled martini glass. Strain the martini into the glass using a Hawthorne or julep strainer, ensuring a smooth pour.
  5. Garnish with Olives: Garnish with 3-4 green olives on a cocktail pick or simply drop them into the glass for that signature touch. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

Adjust “Dirtiness”: Use less olive brine for a subtler briny flavor, or add more for a stronger dirty martini.

Base Spirit Choice: Opt for a gin , depending on your preference for a lighter or more robust flavor.

Olive Choice: Castelvetrano olives are sweet and meaty, but try Manzanilla, Gordal, or blue cheese-stuffed olives for variation.

Extra Twist: Experiment with hot sauce, a lemon twist, or pickle brine for unique flavors.

Add Bitters: Orange bitters add a subtle complexity to the cocktail, but it’s optional based on your taste preference.
