Description
Easy Homemade Butterscotch Sauce is a rich and creamy sauce made with brown sugar, butter, heavy cream, and a touch of vanilla. It’s the perfect topping for desserts, ice cream, cakes, or even fruit.
Ingredients
For the Butterscotch Sauce:
60 g unsalted butter
110 g packed dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon large-flake sea salt
120 ml heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Melt the Butter: In a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the Sugar and Cream: Add the dark brown sugar, sea salt, and heavy cream to the pan. Stir thoroughly until well blended.
- Bring to a Boil: Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally. Let it boil for 4-5 minutes until it thickens slightly.
- Finish the Sauce: Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the sauce to cool before serving. It will thicken slightly as it cools.
Notes
For a smoother texture, use a heavy-bottomed saucepan to prevent scorching.
Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Reheat gently before serving.
Feel free to add a pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg, or bourbon for extra flavor.
