Description

Egg & Sausage McMuffins are a homemade version of the classic fast-food breakfast, featuring a savory sausage patty, a perfectly cooked egg, and melted cheddar cheese on a toasted English muffin.

Ingredients

4 English muffins, split

4 large eggs

4 sausage patties

4 slices of cheddar cheese

Salt and pepper, to taste

Butter or cooking spray, for cooking

Optional: Hot sauce or ketchup, for serving

Instructions

  1. Cook the Sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage patties for about 5-7 minutes on each side until they are browned and fully cooked. Once cooked, remove them from the skillet and keep warm.
  2. Toast the Muffins: While the sausage is cooking, cut each English muffin in half and toast them until golden brown. You can do this using a toaster or by placing them on a baking tray under the broiler for a few minutes.
  3. Cook the Eggs: In the same skillet used for the sausage, crack an egg into the skillet. You can use a ring mold for a perfect round shape, or just fry the egg as you normally would. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for about 3-4 minutes, sunny-side up, or until the yolk is cooked to your liking.
  4. Add Cheese: During the final minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each egg, allowing it to melt slightly.
  5. Assemble the Sandwiches: Take a toasted muffin half and layer with a sausage patty, followed by the cheesy egg. Top with the other half of the muffin.
  6. Serve: If desired, add a little hot sauce or ketchup for extra flavor before serving warm.

Notes

Storage: Egg & Sausage McMuffins are best enjoyed fresh, but you can store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Reheating: Reheat in the microwave for about 30-45 seconds, or in a toaster oven for a crispier result.

Variations: For a vegetarian version, swap the sausage patty for a veggie sausage or a portobello mushroom cap. For a spicier version, add a slice of jalapeño or a drizzle of sriracha sauce.
