Description

Fried Sliced Mushrooms with Ranch are a crispy, savory snack with a perfectly seasoned coating and creamy ranch dip. These mushrooms are fried to golden perfection and are a great appetizer or side dish for any occasion.

Ingredients

1 pound fresh mushrooms, sliced

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon paprika

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 cup buttermilk (or regular milk)

1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)

Oil for frying

½ cup ranch dressing, for serving

Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Clean the mushrooms with a damp cloth and slice them evenly to ensure uniform cooking.
  2. In one bowl, mix together the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. In another bowl, pour the buttermilk.
  4. In a third bowl, place the breadcrumbs.
  5. Dip each mushroom slice in the flour mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated, then dip it in the buttermilk, letting any excess drip off, and finally coat the mushroom slice in breadcrumbs.
  6. Heat oil in a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat. Test oil by dropping in a breadcrumb; if it sizzles, the oil is hot.
  7. Carefully place mushroom slices in the hot oil, frying for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Remove them from the pan and transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  8. Repeat the process with the remaining mushroom slices.
  9. Serve the fried mushrooms immediately on a platter and garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve with ranch dressing on the side for dipping.

Notes

For a spicy twist, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or red chili flakes to the flour mixture.

Try different dipping sauces like blue cheese dressing, BBQ sauce, or spicy mayo for variety.

For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free breadcrumbs or crushed gluten-free cereal.
