Description

Soft, fluffy Herb & Garlic Swirl Rolls filled with a buttery mixture of garlic, parsley, and basil. These savory rolls bake to a light golden color and are perfect served warm as a side dish or snack.

Ingredients

3 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)

1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)

¼ cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

1 large egg

1 teaspoon salt

¼ cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)

4 cloves garlic, minced

¼ cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

¼ cup fresh basil, finely chopped

¼ teaspoon salt (for filling)

¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add melted butter, egg, and the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Prepare the filling by melting the softened butter over low heat in a small saucepan. Add garlic, parsley, basil, salt, and pepper. Stir until fragrant, then remove from heat.
  6. Punch down the risen dough and roll it into a rectangle about ½ inch thick on a floured surface.
  7. Spread the garlic and herb butter mixture evenly over the dough.
  8. Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into 12 equal pieces.
  9. Place the rolls on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space between them. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  11. Bake the rolls for 18–20 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Remove from the oven, allow to cool slightly, and serve warm.

Notes

Add grated Parmesan or mozzarella to the filling for a richer flavor.

Fresh thyme or oregano can replace basil for a different herb profile.

Brush the tops with melted butter after baking for extra shine and flavor.

Dried herbs can be used instead of fresh; use about one-third of the amount.

Store rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 4 days.

Reheat in a 325°F oven for 8–10 minutes or microwave for 15–20 seconds.

Rolls can be frozen for up to 2 months and reheated after thawing.
