Ingredients
1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
Oil for frying
⅓ cup hot honey (store-bought or homemade)
Optional garnish: chopped chives or parsley
Instructions
- Prepare the Shrimp: Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- Make the Spice Mix: In a bowl, mix together the flour, paprika, cayenne pepper, and salt.
- Coat the Shrimp: Dip each shrimp into the buttermilk, then coat in the seasoned flour mixture. Shake off any excess flour.
- Fry the Shrimp: Heat oil in a large skillet or deep fryer over medium-high heat. Fry the shrimp in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
- Add the Hot Honey: Toss the fried shrimp in a mixing bowl with hot honey until evenly coated.
Notes
Don’t overcrowd the pan to ensure even cooking and crispiness.
If you prefer more spice, adjust the cayenne pepper or add red pepper flakes to the hot honey.
For the crispiest texture, make sure the shrimp are well-coated with the flour mixture before frying.
