Description

A warm and comforting Irish Bread Pudding made with custard-soaked bread, sweet raisins, and a hint of cinnamon, baked until golden and served with optional powdered sugar for a nostalgic dessert.

Ingredients

4 cups cubed stale bread

2 cups milk

3 large eggs

1 cup sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 cup raisins or currants

1/4 cup melted butter

Powdered sugar, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine cubed bread with melted butter and set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon until smooth.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring all bread is soaked.
  5. Gently fold in raisins or currants.
  6. Transfer to a greased baking dish.
  7. Bake 45–50 minutes, until golden and set in the center.
  8. Cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

Add a splash of Irish cream liqueur for extra richness.

Use brioche or challah for a softer, sweeter texture.

Swap raisins for dried apricots, cranberries, or mixed dried fruit.

Sprinkle chocolate chips over the bread before baking for decadence.

Replace milk with a milk-cream mix for a richer pudding.
