Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour (plus 1 tbsp reserved)
- ½ cup white sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup raisins
- 2 tbsp caraway seeds
- 2 large eggs
- 1 ¼ cups buttermilk
- ½ cup sour cream
Instructions
1️⃣ Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cast iron skillet or baking pan.
2️⃣ Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine flour (reserving 1 tbsp), sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, raisins, and caraway seeds.
3️⃣ Whisk wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, buttermilk, and sour cream.
4️⃣ Combine & knead: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just moistened. Knead 10-12 times (dough will be sticky).
5️⃣ Shape & score: Transfer dough to the prepared skillet/pan, pat it down, and cut a 4-inch long, ¾-inch deep slit on top. Dust with the reserved flour.
6️⃣ Bake for 65-75 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
7️⃣ Cool & serve: Let the bread cool slightly before transferring it to a wire rack. Slice and enjoy!
