Description

A hearty, crowd-pleasing meatzza casserole that combines pasta, savory meats, vegetables, pizza sauce, and melted cheese for all the flavors of a meat-lover’s pizza in an easy baked dish.

Ingredients

3 cups uncooked pasta of choice

1/2 lb lean ground beef

6 slices beef strips, chopped

4 mild Italian sausage links, casings removed

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

1 sweet onion, chopped

1 green pepper, chopped

3 garlic cloves, minced

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1 cup mushrooms, sliced

1/2 cup pepperoni slices

3 cups pizza sauce

1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the pasta according to package directions, drain, and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, beef strips, and Italian sausage until fully cooked, breaking the meat apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
  4. Add the cooked meat mixture to the cooked pasta.
  5. In a separate skillet, heat the olive oil and sauté the onion, green pepper, mushrooms, garlic, and Italian seasoning until the vegetables are softened.
  6. Add the vegetable mixture to the pasta.
  7. Stir in the pizza sauce and pepperoni until evenly combined.
  8. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch casserole dish.
  9. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese evenly over the top.
  10. Bake for about 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. Serve hot.

Notes

Short pasta shapes like penne or rotini work best.

Add extra vegetables such as olives or zucchini for more variety.

A blend of cheeses can be used for added flavor.

This casserole can be assembled ahead and baked when needed.
