Description
The Onion Brie Bowl is an indulgent appetizer that combines caramelized onions with creamy brie cheese, creating a savory and slightly sweet dish, perfect for sharing with crusty bread.
Ingredients
2 large onions, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon thyme leaves (fresh or dried)
1 cup brie cheese, cut into chunks
½ cup vegetable broth
Crusty bread for serving
Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring frequently.
- Sprinkle the salt and sugar over the onions. Cook for about 15 minutes, stirring often, until the onions are golden brown and caramelized.
- Stir in the thyme leaves and cook for another minute to release their flavor.
- Pour in the vegetable broth and stir to combine. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the broth is mostly absorbed.
- Add the brie cheese chunks to the skillet. Stir gently until the cheese melts and blends with the onions, creating a creamy consistency.
- Transfer the onion and brie mixture into a serving bowl or individual bowls.
- Optionally, sprinkle fresh parsley over the top for added color and flavor.
- Toast slices of crusty bread for dipping and serve alongside the Onion Brie Bowl.
Notes
For a richer flavor, add minced garlic to the onions while caramelizing.
For a vegan version, substitute brie with dairy-free cheese and use olive oil instead of butter.
For an extra spicy kick, add chili flakes or finely chopped jalapeños while cooking the onions.
Try adding a touch of balsamic vinegar or honey to make the onions even sweeter.
