Description
Peppermint Snowball Cookies are buttery, crumbly holiday cookies coated in powdered sugar and crushed peppermint candies. Their melt-in-the-mouth texture with a refreshing peppermint crunch makes them a festive favorite for cookie swaps, parties, and gift boxes.
Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
½ cup powdered sugar (plus extra for rolling)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup finely chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
½ cup crushed peppermint candies or candy canes
Extra powdered sugar for rolling
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream butter and ½ cup powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Gradually add to butter mixture until combined. Fold in nuts if using.
- Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 12–14 minutes, until bottoms are lightly golden. Do not overbake.
- Mix crushed peppermint candies with powdered sugar in a shallow bowl.
- Cool cookies for 2–3 minutes, then roll in peppermint-sugar mixture while still warm.
- After fully cooled, roll again in the mixture for a snowy finish.
Notes
For nut-free cookies, simply omit pecans or walnuts.
Add ¼ teaspoon peppermint extract for extra flavor.
Crushed toffee or chocolate chips can be used instead of peppermint.
Cookies freeze well before or after baking for up to 2 months.
Roll cookies twice in sugar for the best snowy look and flavor.
