Description

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with this festive, sweet, and crunchy green popcorn treat. Coated in a sugary glaze, this colorful snack is perfect for parades, parties, or a fun family activity. Easy to prepare with simple ingredients, it’s the perfect way to add a festive touch to your celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 4 quarts popped popcorn
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup butter
  • 8 to 10 drops green food coloring

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Popcorn:

    • Place the popped popcorn in a large roasting pan. Keep it warm in a 250°F oven while you make the glaze.
  2. Make the Glaze:

    • In a large saucepan, combine sugar, brown sugar, water, corn syrup, vinegar, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it begins to boil.
    • Continue cooking until a candy thermometer reads 260°F (hard-ball stage).
  3. Finish the Glaze:

    • Remove from heat and stir in the butter until it’s fully melted. Add green food coloring and mix until smooth.
  4. Coat the Popcorn:

    • Drizzle the glaze over the warm popcorn. Toss to coat the popcorn evenly, ensuring each piece is covered in the sweet glaze.
  5. Cool and Serve:

    • Allow the popcorn to cool completely before breaking it into pieces. Store in an airtight container to keep fresh.

Notes

  • For color variations, use different food coloring to match other holidays or themes.
  • Add a teaspoon of vanilla or almond extract to the glaze for an extra flavor boost.
  • For added crunch, mix in roasted nuts like almonds or pecans before baking.
