Description

This Simple and Creamy Spanish Flan offers a rich, caramel-flavored dessert with a smooth, creamy texture. Easy to prepare with simple ingredients, this classic treat is perfect for any occasion and sure to impress your guests.

Ingredients

  • Caramel: 1 cup white sugar
  • Custard: 3 large eggs, 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk, 1 (12-fluid ounce) can evaporated milk, 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Caramel: In a medium saucepan, melt the white sugar over medium-low heat until it liquefies and turns golden brown. Pour the hot caramel into a 9-inch round glass baking dish, swirling to coat the bottom evenly.
  2. Mix the Custard: In a large bowl, beat the eggs until smooth. Add sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  3. Assemble the Flan: Pour the custard mixture over the caramel in the baking dish.
  4. Bake in a Water Bath: Place the baking dish in a larger roasting pan. Pour hot water into the roasting pan until it reaches halfway up the sides of the baking dish.
  5. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool and Serve: Allow the flan to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours. To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan, invert onto a plate, and enjoy.

Notes

  • Flavor Enhancements: Add almond or orange extract to the custard for a unique twist.
  • Texture Modifications: For a smoother texture, blend the custard before baking.
  • Toppings: Serve with fresh berries, whipped cream, or chocolate sauce for added flavor.
