Description

A hearty and comforting sloppy joe casserole made with ground beef, pasta, and gooey cheese, perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 3 cups cooked pasta (elbow macaroni or penne)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 cup crushed crackers or French fried onions (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add onion, green bell pepper, and garlic; cook about 5 minutes until softened.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper. Simmer 5-10 minutes.
  5. In a large bowl, combine cooked pasta and sloppy joe mixture. Stir in 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. Pour mixture into prepared dish, spreading evenly.
  7. Sprinkle remaining 1 cup cheese and crushed crackers or fried onions on top if using.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Feel free to use ground turkey instead of beef for a leaner option.
  • For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of red chili flakes to the sloppy joe mixture.
  • If you’re short on time, pre-cooked pasta can speed up the process.
