Description

A comforting copycat of Texas Roadhouse green beans made with tender slow-simmered green beans, smoky turkey, onion, garlic, and a perfectly balanced touch of sweetness and acidity.

Ingredients

6 slices smoked turkey strips, chopped

1/2 cup diced white onion (about 1/2 medium onion)

2 (16-ounce) cans green beans, drained and rinsed

1/2 cup low-sodium chicken broth

1 tablespoon minced garlic (about 3 large cloves)

1 tablespoon butter

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

1 teaspoon granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

1/4 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the chopped smoked turkey strips and cook for 5–6 minutes until lightly crisp, stirring often.
  3. Add the diced white onion and cook for about 5 minutes until softened.
  4. Stir in the green beans, chicken broth, minced garlic, butter, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Reduce heat to low, cover the skillet, and simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until green beans are tender.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed before serving.

Notes

Add crushed red pepper flakes for extra heat.

Extra butter can be added at the end for richness.

A squeeze of lemon juice brightens the flavor just before serving.

Fresh green beans can be used if blanched first.
