Description
A comforting copycat of Texas Roadhouse green beans made with tender slow-simmered green beans, smoky turkey, onion, garlic, and a perfectly balanced touch of sweetness and acidity.
Ingredients
6 slices smoked turkey strips, chopped
1/2 cup diced white onion (about 1/2 medium onion)
2 (16-ounce) cans green beans, drained and rinsed
1/2 cup low-sodium chicken broth
1 tablespoon minced garlic (about 3 large cloves)
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
1/4 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper (or to taste)
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the chopped smoked turkey strips and cook for 5–6 minutes until lightly crisp, stirring often.
- Add the diced white onion and cook for about 5 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the green beans, chicken broth, minced garlic, butter, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper.
- Reduce heat to low, cover the skillet, and simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until green beans are tender.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as needed before serving.
Notes
Add crushed red pepper flakes for extra heat.
Extra butter can be added at the end for richness.
A squeeze of lemon juice brightens the flavor just before serving.
Fresh green beans can be used if blanched first.
