1 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon mustard
Salt and pepper to taste
4 slices of Texas toast
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.

- Add ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, mustard, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine well.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 5-10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Butter the Texas toast on one side and toast in a skillet or under a broiler until golden brown.
- Spoon the meat mixture generously onto one slice of toasted Texas toast. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top, if desired.
- Place another slice of toasted Texas toast on top, buttered side up.
- Cut the sandwiches in half and serve warm.
Notes
For a spicy kick, add jalapeños, chili powder, or hot sauce to the meat mixture.
Use plant-based ground meat or lentils for a vegetarian option.
Try adding mushrooms or spinach to the filling for extra flavor and nutrition.
For a gluten-free version, substitute the Texas toast with gluten-free bread or buns.
