Description
Delicious, crispy mozzarella fried cheese bites – perfect for a snack or appetizer.
Ingredients
- 10 oz mozzarella string cheese (about 10 sticks)
- 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- Cut each mozzarella string cheese stick into thirds, resulting in 30 bite-sized pieces.
- Set up breading stations: In one shallow bowl, place the flour. In a second shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. In a third shallow bowl, place the breadcrumbs.
- Bread the cheese: Dip each mozzarella piece first into the flour, ensuring it’s fully coated. Next, dip it into the egg mixture. Finally, roll it in the breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to adhere. For extra crispiness, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps to double coat the cheese.
- Place the breaded cheese pieces on a baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to help the coating set.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C). Test the oil by dropping a small piece of bread in; if it browns in about 60 seconds, the oil is ready.
- Fry the cheese bites in batches, avoiding overcrowding. Fry for 1–2 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the cheese bites and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate. Serve hot with marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- Refrigerating the coated cheese helps the coating adhere better during frying.
- You can freeze the bites before frying them if you’d like to prepare them in advance.
- Serve with a variety of dipping sauces, such as marinara, ranch, or spicy mayo.
