Description

Trisha Yearwood’s Butterscotch Bars are a chewy, buttery dessert that combines the rich flavor of butterscotch chips with a delightful crunch from optional pecans or walnuts. This simple, nostalgic recipe is perfect for any occasion, offering a perfect balance of sweet and buttery flavors. Easy to make and even easier to enjoy, these bars are a crowd-pleaser and a must-try for anyone with a sweet tooth.

Ingredients

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 large egg

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup butterscotch chips

1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

  2. Mix wet ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, brown sugar, melted butter, vanilla extract, and egg until smooth and well-blended.

  3. Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until fully combined.

  4. Fold in mix-ins: Fold in the butterscotch chips and chopped nuts (if using).

  5. Bake the bars: Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. Cool and slice: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before slicing them into squares.

Notes

Storage: Store leftover bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.

Freezing: Freeze for up to 3 months by placing them in an airtight container. Thaw at room temperature before serving.

Gluten-Free Option: Use a gluten-free flour blend to make these bars gluten-free.
