Ingredients

For the Skewers:

Rice cakes (tteok), preferably cylinder-shaped

Cooking oil (e.g., avocado oil)

For the Sauce:

Garlic powder

Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)

Ketchup

Gochujang (Korean fermented chili paste)

Soy sauce (low sodium)

Honey

Sesame oil

For Garnish:

Sesame seeds

Green onion (chopped)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Rice Cakes: Thread the rice cakes onto skewers, ensuring they are spaced evenly.

  • Make the Sauce: In a bowl, combine garlic powder, gochugaru, ketchup, gochujang, soy sauce, honey, and sesame oil. Mix until smooth.

  • Grill the Skewers: Lightly oil a grill or pan. Grill the skewers until the rice cakes turn golden and crispy on the outside.

  • Coat with Sauce: Brush the grilled rice cakes with the sauce and cook for another minute to caramelize the glaze.

  • Garnish: Sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

For a heartier version, alternate mini sausages with rice cakes on the skewers.

Add small chunks of cheese between the rice cakes for a cheesy twist.
