Description

This easy cabbage and sausage recipe is a hearty one-skillet meal made with smoky sausage, tender cabbage, onions, and garlic. It is quick, comforting, and perfect for busy weeknight dinners.


Ingredients

1 lb kielbasa smoked sausage

1 medium head cabbage, chopped

1 medium onion, chopped

3 garlic cloves, minced

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon white vinegar (optional)

Optional: fresh parsley for garnish


Instructions

  1. Cut the sausage into 1/2-inch pieces.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add the sausage and cook for about 3 minutes until browned and slightly crisp.
  4. While the sausage cooks, chop the cabbage into thin evenly sized pieces.
  5. Add the remaining olive oil, chopped onion, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until tender and fragrant.
  6. Add the chopped cabbage, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well combined.
  7. Cover the skillet and cook until the cabbage becomes soft and tender.
  8. Remove the lid and stir in the vinegar and cooked sausage.
  9. Cook for another 3 minutes, then remove from heat.
  10. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve warm.

Notes

Turkey sausage or beef sausage can be substituted for kielbasa.

Add crushed red pepper flakes or jalapeños for extra heat.

Serve with potatoes, rice, or crusty bread for a heartier meal.

Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
