Description

This Miso-Ginger Lemon Detox Broth is a light, soothing soup with savory miso, fresh ginger, garlic, and bright lemon juice. Enjoy it on its own or customize it with noodles, vegetables, or tofu for a nourishing meal.

Ingredients

4 cups vegetable broth

2 tablespoons white or yellow miso paste

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari

Juice of 1 lemon

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

1/4 cup green onions, chopped

1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable broth in a medium pot over medium heat until it reaches a gentle simmer.
  2. Add the grated ginger and minced garlic, then simmer for about 5 minutes.
  3. Place the miso paste in a small bowl and whisk it with a few spoonfuls of the hot broth until smooth.
  4. Stir the dissolved miso mixture back into the pot.
  5. Add the soy sauce or tamari, lemon juice, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes if using, then stir well.
  6. Simmer gently for another 5 to 10 minutes to blend the flavors.
  7. Taste and adjust with salt and pepper as needed.
  8. Ladle into bowls and garnish with chopped green onions and fresh cilantro before serving.

Notes

Do not boil the broth after adding the miso to help preserve its flavor.

Use tamari and certified gluten-free miso for a gluten-free version.

Add cooked noodles, rice, tofu, edamame, or vegetables for a heartier meal.

Store refrigerated for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.

Reheat gently over low heat and add a splash of broth or water if needed.
