Description

This Spiced Cranberry Hot Toddy combines lemon-ginger tea, whiskey, tart cranberry orange syrup, and fresh lemon for a cozy seasonal drink. Optional honey and festive garnishes make it perfect for chilly evenings and holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

1 ½ oz bourbon or rye

¾ oz spiced cranberry orange syrup

½ oz fresh lemon juice

6 oz hot lemon ginger tea

Optional: 1–2 tsp honey

Lemon wheel, for garnish

Cinnamon stick, for garnish

Fresh or sugared cranberries, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Brew the lemon ginger tea using one tea bag per 6 ounces of hot water. Steep for about 5–6 minutes, until fragrant and flavorful.
  2. While the tea steeps, add the bourbon or rye, spiced cranberry orange syrup, fresh lemon juice, and optional honey to a heat-safe mug.
  3. Pour the freshly brewed hot tea into the mug and stir gently until everything is combined and the honey, if used, has completely dissolved.
  4. Taste the hot toddy and adjust the sweetness as desired with 1–2 teaspoons of honey.
  5. Garnish with a lemon wheel, cinnamon stick, and fresh or sugared cranberries as desired.
  6. Serve immediately while pleasantly hot and aromatic.

Notes

Use bourbon for a rounder, slightly sweeter whiskey flavor or rye for a spicier, more robust drink.

Honey is optional; taste the drink first because the cranberry orange syrup may provide enough sweetness.

Add extra fresh lemon juice for a brighter, more citrus-forward drink.

A cinnamon stick can be left in the mug while serving for gradually stronger warming spice notes.

For multiple servings, multiply the ingredients as needed and portion the whiskey, syrup, lemon juice, and optional honey into individual mugs before adding freshly brewed tea.

The spiced cranberry orange syrup can be prepared ahead and stored separately in the refrigerator.

For the best flavor, assemble and serve the hot toddy immediately after brewing the tea.

If reheating, gently warm the non-alcoholic components and add the bourbon or rye afterward rather than boiling the completed cocktail.

Serve with holiday cookies, spiced cakes, toasted nuts, or desserts featuring cinnamon, ginger, cranberry, orange, or vanilla.
